Gala Weekend Report from the Community Assocation What a success!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! This years annual Gala Weekend was a huge success and that is all down to you, the community of Wemyss Bay. The Community Association, the group who manage the Community Centre and organise the Gala every year would like to take this opportunity to thank all the volunteers who took time out to help make this year's Gala "simply the best". By having the most helpers ever made it a lot less stressful and much more enjoyable for the committee, and for that they are actually looking forward to next year already. We will be putting a flyer in the September edition of the Village News asking for your views on the weekend, i.e. what worked, what didn't and what ideas you may have for next year and we look forward to reading the replies. Our first meeting back after the summer will be in the Inverkip Hotel (upstairs in the Rogues Room) on Wednesday 2nd September at 7.30pm. We look forward to meeting anyone new wishing to come on board or just wish to see what we are all about. Another huge thank you is also extended to all those who sponsor the weekend and for all donations of prizes and services, without which we could not make the weekend what it is.
What happened at the Gala Weekend? Friday 12th June The Gala weekend started on Friday with the Homecoming Disco from 7pm to 10.30pm in the Marquee. The night was hosted by John Scott of 'Your Radio' and had a 'Homecoming' theme. Saturday 13th June On Saturday it was the Gala Day starting at 12pm. In the marquee the following events were going on: There were the usual attractions such as the ever popular Laser Quest, giant inflatable rides, bouncy castle, beat the keeper, coconut shy, tattoos, face painting, portable ceramics studio, nail bar and much, much more. Food was provided during the day by the Youth Club's hamburger and hot dog stall, the Community Association's soup stall, home baking in the Guides Tearoom in the Community Centre and Harkie our local ice cream award winner with his ice cream and catering vans. The Brownies ran a bottle and book stall, with the Nursery Lending Library having a lucky dip and hook the duck. In addition to this we were visited by the local fire brigade, coast guard and Invernet Bus. Sunday The Ardgowan Football Development Gala Day was held on Sunday 14th June at the Wemyss Bay Community Centre. 150 kids were paraded out to show their parents the skills they have learned over the last year. The kids were than presented with their trophies and certificates by Stuart Duncan (Morton Director). Brian Fulton from Ardgowan sponsor (Caledonian MacBrayne) awarded the Cal Mac Trophy to Daniel Anderson for his efforts over the last year. The marquee was full to bursting and parents and kids ended the day enjoying drinks and food in the sun.
